Consumers, and opinions don't stop for the holidays

Yes it is summer time, it is hot, humid and
many people's minds are not where they should be !

But do people stop buying products and services , of course not, do people stop making decisions between which product or service or outlet they should use , of course not.

Social media activity doesn't cease to take place in the summer, people spend more time out of their home and seem determnined to let the world and their friends know all about it.

Yet way too many brands, companies and small one off operators scale back or cancel marketing in the summer. A lot don't even plan any.

The question is why ? Don't you want sales and money ?

The idea that people are on holiday means they switch off from media is ridiculous, and the decision to not to advertise, interact, promote and publicise, costs businesses a fortune in lost sales every single summer.

it isn't a question that people stop spending time with media.

The increase in Facebook, Instagram and location app posts
(Yelp, Swarm, Foursquare) tells us people are spending the same or more amount of time to interact on social media as they do when at home.

So your audience has just shifted their media focus online and away from TV, Radio and newspapers and magazines.

If your target audience is under the age of 24, they were already on social media and streaming sites already, ignoring traditional media. The fall year on year of 15-30 TV ratings in Poland clearly shows that.

So why not re-evaluate your strategy, take the summer to create a new plan to drive customers to your website, and your location(s), be more active on social media and combine that with some events and PR to really boost the effectiveness of your marketing.

One click, an email, a call, and your strategy is being designed+will be ready to deliver, relax whilst your competitors don't !

So why not just send us a message and tell us what you want to do , who you want to reach and we will come back to you with a strategy, a plan, and a nice summer price, backed with 4 expert companies including ourselves to deliver your ideal marketing plan !

The Retail Revolution - Welcome to the new age

Mosaic PR recently moderated the Wetail - The Retail Revolution panel
at the  EuropaProperty.com CEE Retail Forum and Gala Awards,

Our  panel of guests included Philip Evans CEO of TriGranit Management
and Michal Kramarz of Google and Alek Domaradzki of DGS.

Words of attendees left the conference in no doubt how important the subject is

"The most important challenge facing retail in CEE today
and a panel I urge you all to attend this afternoon"
Martin Sabelko CEO - CBRE Global Investors

The panel started with a short film, which shocked and amazed the audience,
followed by Steve Whittle of Mosaic PR showing the extent of the retail
revolution's growth in Poland already.

We used the example of the UK's reaction to and the ongoing results in retail of the
retail revolution to show how the effect will be far more pronounced and brutal in Poland.

The presentation raised the following wake up call

It's the age of Self Expression, your customers put their lives online, declaring who they are, telling you what they want. what they like, what they want to pay and how they want to get it.

They are clear about who they are - are you ?

If you have no brand identity - how will shoppers know who you are ?

Mosaic PR's film and presentation was followed by Michal Kramarz ,
Head of Retail for Google, whose gave a fantastic and enlightening presentation,
showing how mobile internet is driving the retail revolution.

Michal Kramarz Head of Retail - Google

Michal showed how people use phones to change they way they shop and use shops, he also showed some of Google's plans for the future in retail. He showed the massive growth in mobile use in retail by consumers in Poland exceeds the world average.

Philip Evans - CEO TriGranit Management

Philip Evans the CEO of TriGranit Management, laid out clearly the challenge to
shopping centre owners, that Wetail presents, and the opportunities is also offers.

Aleks Domaradzki Partner DGS

Aleks Domaradzki of DGS talked about how Wetail is changing the supply chain, and logistics and how shopping centres need to back their independent tenants and help them.

The response to Mosaic and Google's presentations was clear, shopping centre owners need to start branding and clearly identifying themselves with their shoppers. They need to work with tenants to market the centres clearly and give people alternative reasons to come and shop.

Philip Evans of TriGranit management, said "it is clear those who are branded and have an identity have a massive opportunity, those who are not face a terribly difficult time"

Philip went on to say "as managers of shopping centres  we owe it to asset owners, and tenants to ensure we provide new environments and attractions to keep shoppers coming and repeating their visits".

Aleks Domaradzki of DGS pointed out that shopping centres need to provide a solution to allow independent tenants to offer a online channel, and with a shopping centre logistical solution. This would allow centres to help smaller tenants to combat the retail revolution.

Following the panel member's discussion and presentations there followed a lengthy, intense, and thought provoking audience debate.

The panel ended, with the debate continuing in the event cafe area outside, with guests enthusiastically continuing their discussions.

The panel was a massive success, with several large Real Estate agents and property managers, asking Mosaic to prepare Retail Revolution presentations and workshops for their clients and staff.

To give you a taste of the discussion to be led by this distinguished, very experienced panel, which we are sure will open a lively debate, here is the forum's introduction

The shopping revolution has started and it’s growing. The shopping revolution is going to affect your real estate business, Wetail is here.

It’s not about location, location, location any more, it’s about being involved and influencing the process of modern shopping 24/7.

As people sit browsing, comparing, recommending and buying online whilst you are closed, and using their smart-phones, and tablets in store, how are you as a real estate owner going to protect your investment?

With online sales on mobile devices increasing hugely across the CEE, and online food shopping growing 15% a year, with home delivery, the way people are shopping has changed forever and it’s going to grow hugely.

This means if they don’t visit your anchor supermarket tenant because that tenant is delivering to them at home, then you have decreasing footfall and incremental purchases in smaller retailers, how will your centre cope with lower footfall, lower turnover, and retailers reducing the size of and number of units?

Are you influencing your centre’s shoppers?

How involved are your tenants in your marketing programme?

What are you doing to give people a reason to keep coming to your centre?

Are you taking part in the retail revolution?

Tickets can still be purchased for the whole forum, or even the Wetail forum, contact EuropaProperty.com for details here

Rick Jones Head of Retail at Google about the shopping explosion caused by tablets & mobiles

Rick Jones Head of Retail at Google on the shopping explosion
taking place on tablets & mobiles

At the recent ICSC European Marketing conference in London, marketers and delegates, attended a full and lively workshop, led By Rick Jones, Head of Retail at Google.

The subject was the massive growth in the use of mobile devices by consumers and retailers.

You know a subject is important to an industry , when Google appoint a team headed by an industry veteran like Rick to work with the companies involved in that sector.

Steve Whittle of Mosaic PR was at the workshop to listen to Google’s thoughts and the opinions of shopping centre owners from across Europe.

Rick Jones introduced the session, with a multimedia presentation, showing the explosion in using mobile devices by consumers, and its effects on the UK retail scene. Rick showed the complete change in the shopping process and way use of shops is changing by consumers using mobiles.

Contrasting this with the changes and full shifts in marketing plans by some leading retailers with the amazing statistics, and the ever sad sight of empty shops on UK high streets.

Rick showed the growth, and use of mobile devices  and how retailers using apps and location based services had benefited hugely from interacting with shoppers.

In the UK smart-phones now have 73% penetration and people are interacting 150 times a day with their devices, according to Google’s own statistics.

With consumers researching and discussing products, sharing information to friends and the world on social media, and show rooming as well, before purchasing online it is not surprising so many retailers see they need to influence the process.

Consumers are ignoring trends, it is now anticipation and creation, retailers need to innovate to take part in the process.

Nowhere is that more seen than the blurring of the real world with the digital world, the Burberry store in London’s Regent Street is leading the way with designing its flagship store to resemble its website, displaying digital first thinking as it adapts to customers wanting instant service and constant innovation.

The Burberry Store Regent St London

Retailers are following their shoppers throughout their day on social media, and throughout their shopping journey online and in store, making offers and influencing the process at key moments. As well as listening to  shoppers saying what they want.

Those retailers who are listening to their shoppers are eliminating shopping hates.

Responding to complaints of queues to pay, with assistants with roaming terminals. Putting QR codes on products to help shoppers choose things to look at later, and assistants with tablets with catalogues allowing shoppers to sit and select what to try.

Google are working with retailers to make in-store maps available, maps which pull consumers to the results of their searches and take them straight to where those goods are located in store.

The Google shopping app allows retailers to draw people to stores, pushing products matching searches, and pulling in consumers making offers.

It was clear from the workshop that in many markets, both retailers and mall owners, are not up to speed with this new way, and consumers are driving the process. Notable exceptions were those enlightened companies who see this way as their key to success.

Contrast this with most CEE markets, and we see some retailers using online marketing but not focusing on mobile devices. The lack of uptake on the retailer side, isn’t matched by Polish consumers.

So adoption of the new way of shopping and using stores has begun and is increasing rapidly in CEE, the question is have enough retailers realised it yet.

Yes, we can see investment in to online food  shopping by multinational supermarkets and online fashion brands, but have mall owners considered the effects of this new system on their business, currently being planned by the very retailer who is their key footfall driver.

When shoppers see they can do this from their desk, and all is delivered at home, saving them petrol, time, hassle, and giving them more free time, then adoption rates in Poland and CEE countries will soar.

Retailers will ensure all concerns by shoppers are met as well to fuel this growth.

That leaves shopping centres with decreasing footfall, non food and ancillary tenants not getting those incremental or impulse buys.

Left long enough, the effect  maybe catastrophic, especially for small neighbourhood malls.

It is clear in the age of self expression, if your mall or brand has no identity its customers can’t identify and interact with, you have a major problem.

Retail has become Wetail, its no longer about you, your brand, its about WE

Brands, retailers, malls and consumers all interacting together.  Consumers being given reasons to recommend, discuss, and come to shop. Its also realising this process is going on 24/7 , even when your outlets or malls are closed, and seeing you need to take part in the process 24/7 to influence it.
